The results (and lists) from the GG Town Hall Store Championship hosted by our very own TommyH can be found through the link below:

Check them out - there's some good diversity and some very interesting combos!

Until next time, make good choices,

Red Squadron at our Store Championship

Saturday's X-Wing Store Championship was an absolute blast! We maxed out at 40 players (we can only fit that many at the moment) to make it a full on competitive event..... too bad I did so rubbish!

Dealing with The End Times

GW dropping their latest FAQ for fantasy has led to a rapid change in the gaming scene. Being able to now take up to 50% lord and 50% heroes means that there are now some seriously hilarious combos available. However, was it the right move?

The Hobbit: My list for next week.

Alright, so it's been a few months since we have had some Hobbit action! Well, for once we are the ones attending, rather than hosting a LOTR tournament. It's four games with an escalating format. You start out with 300 points, and increase in 450 point increments. Here is my base list:

Australian X-Wing National Championship Results

What a weekend! After powering through the drive on Friday night, we all arrived down in Canberra for a weekend of X-Wing! Our national tournament drew 53 players (WOW) from all corners of Australia. We met a great group of guys, and all had a blast. The full results haven’t been released yet, but they are coming soon for sure.

Why having Door prizes is important.

Now, typically, a lot of tournaments do not offer “door prizes” as much more than a novelty prize of some type. However, in our tournaments the door prizes are legitimate awards. In GW tournaments you win back your entry fee, or in X-Wing, a whole ship.

First 7th Edition Tournament - Post Review

Alright, so last Saturday we had 12 players come and duke it out at the first 7th edition tournament. It’s not a huge amount of players, but it was a great learning experience for all that were involved. There were bumps along the way as we all sorted through rules issues, and I thank all the players who approached such problems with patience and a sociable attitude.

40k Warzone Singles this Saturday - First 7th edition tournament.

Wow, it feels like yesterday we were running the last 6th edition 40k tournament at GW: Sydney. However, this coming Saturday we have our first 7th edition tournament!

All of the info, for you Sydney Aussies, can be found here:

https://www.facebook.com/events/619963794765475/

I'll be the T.O on the day as the rest of the boys will be busy. I look forward to seeing what 7th edition brings to the local tournament scene. I know for a fact that there will be parts of the tournament that will be bumpy. With only five weeks with the rulebook, I am sure we have missed some finer points that will turn up in competitive play. We will see.

Wish us luck!

X-Wing: Sportsmanship problems?

There can be no doubt that Good Sportsmanship is expected across all gaming systems. However, X-wing, as I have found, deals with it in a pretty specific way. The rulebook itself tells you what to do, especially in tournaments.

Helpful hints to run your own tournament.

As you may know, the boys and I have been running a number of tournaments across GW’s three gaming systems. We started off in January and have run events ranging from 8 to 38 players. Across all of these tournaments, we have used a similar system of scoring, judging and general approaches to how we interact with players. Here are some of our hints:

Warzone LOTR #3 approaching fast!

Warzone LOTR #3 is on this Saturday! The time since the last LOTR tournament has flown past, and I look forward to getting into a few fun games for it. Last time we had 24 players hack it out in one of the nation's biggest events (until our brothers down in Victoria came along with 30+!!!). The Hobbit is a great game, and it can be a refreshing alternative to 40k or Fantasy. Anyway, if you are Australian, live in Sydney and are free on Saturday, then head on down to GW Sydney to play or watch!

Wollongong Fantasy Doubles Tournament

Well the day is over and we are all back up here in Sydney. First off, I'd like to say a HUGE thank you to all the players in today's tournament. Especially Tim, the manager down there. Brilliant GW employee who really gives the company a good name. Anyway, today we had fantasy doubles, and Warzone members managed to take out first and second placings.

N.S.W. 40k Warzone Open #3!

Over the past few months it's been absolutely incredible to watch the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit scene return in N.S.W. and Victoria. Being a part of such a dedicated community (and being able to host events regularly for that community) is just awesome.

Good mix of armies have sent their lists in, so it should be sweet!

Escalation at 750 points - Tournament chatter.

Our next singles tournament is on at the end of May (40k is now on the last Saturday of EVERY month), and we decided to roll it as a completely “GW original” event. So there are no restrictions on Super Heavies or D weapons (as we had before).

Sunday, 6 April 2014

Top table tempers.

Sportsmanship is rarely an issue in "soft" tournaments (i.e that have sportsmanship as a % of your score). However, that doesn't stop issues arising when it comes to the final round of the competition.
